The cushions on my dining room chairs are stained (not removable) What can I do to give them a makeover?

It's very easy to re-upholster the chairs.

Turn the chair over, unscrew and remove the 4 screws and remove the seat cushion.

(you may have to peel back fabric to expose screws)

Cut fabric 4" larger than the cushion.

Lay cushion up-side-down on top of the back of the fabric.

Wrap fabric tightly to the back of the cushion like a present and staple in place.

Then re-attach cushion to the chair.

how to treat/seal an oak table?

For oak, you'd usually suggest either an oiled or waxed finish: a good quality beeswax finish applied in layers should help. However, you may still have problems with the stain coming through if it gets damp, so you could consider some sort of cellulose lacquer or varnish. It won't give as nice a 'natural' finish (it'll actually make it look a bit 'cheap'), but will certainly seal it.

Is there anything that I can use to prevent my new dining room table from becoming any more scratched?

What I did with my last table to prevent it from being scratched was I got a piece of glass cut to size and placed it on the table. It looked great, you could still see the beautiful wood grain though the glass and all I had to do was clean the glass.

When I eventually sold the table to my friends the table top still looked brand new.

What's better for a dining room table? Glass or wood top?

I prefer wood. I think it looks more natural. Glass is easily cleaned but it must be done more often because of fingerprints and such. Wood is easy to clean as well because most tables come with a protective layer over the table. All you have to do is wipe it down and every once and while use some lemon oil and it doesn't show all the blemishes like glass will.

what is best for Lucite?

If it is just a few scratches, I wonder if the stuff they advertise for fixing scratched eye glasses would work? If the table is so scratched up it looks like frosted glass, I maybe a place that does auto body work might be able to re-polish and buff the surface for you? If lucite part is a flat, removable, insert, it might be easier to just replace with new material

go to the IKEA website, they have a design tool to download to your computer, you can put your space's measurements, where the windows are located at, etc. and it will give you ideas for dividing space, storage and so on, although if you don't buy the material from them, you can get ideas by the exact measurements. this is how I remodeled a foreclosed home and everyone loves it.

See a doctor right away about the fragment in your eye. Clean hair and clothing with a vacuum cleaner. Small fragments can be picked up from floor and counters with a damp sponge or damp paper towels, washcloths, etc. When the floor and counters are dry, go over them again to catch any loose pieces. Be careful about any bits that may have been tracked out of the immediate area. Good Luck

if you go with a different colored table it will stand out & look like a mistake if all the other woods in the kitchen coordinate...

i say go with the same wood BUT put a lighter colored table cloth over it when the kids are around. Leave the table bare but with a LIGHTER BRIGHTER CENTERPIECE (maybe sitting on lighter colored place mats) when you want a more formal look...

Wining and dining in a public restroom, no matter how fancy the building ... very unromantic! Unhygienic and gross!!

The setting completely overrides the romance of the wine/flowers/chocolates gesture.

A better option for you would be to skip the wine seeing as you're underage and can't drink in a public place anyway, and go with the flowers and chocolates.

Lead glass is a lot older than 400 years, but probably nobody would have made panes out of it. My cousin managed to solve it. He used a razor blade scraper and something called in Chinese. I think it's just a kind of bleach used only in Hong Kong.The trick is to use the razor scraper while spraying the sticker with the bleach, so you need to scrape wetly. It doesn't work if you only use the razor scraper and scrape dryly. He found a "putty knife", underneath, completely useless

Your prices sound good to me. Before my granny died two years ago she would always have a HUGE yard sale every summer and I'd help her. Hm..my only concern is it matching the wood. If you don't have any other metals in your decor, then I don't know if it's such a good idea.

Just see if it looks good- picture it, or you can take something else you have in your house that's metal, and see how it ties in with the room.

Can you get a liquid version? I had to give my cat a liquid medicine that she hated. I squirted the right amount onto her paw, and she licked it off. Now my cats have to take laxatone for their hairballs. One cat hates it, and one loves it. I put it on a straw ( laxatone's really sticky) and rub it on her paw. Same technique for liquids works every time
