China Mobile Joins Hands with Huawei to Complete the First 5g Voice and Video Call

China Mobile and Huawei jointly opened EPS fallback voice and video call based on 5g independent Networking (SA) in Beijing Information Port for the first time. In this call, the 5g core network and IMS network are deployed in different places. The networking mode meets the networking specifications of the scale test of the mobile group and is consistent with the commercial network architecture and business process, which indicates that the 5g end-to-end business process of China Mobile has entered a new stage.

In 5g network voice service, EPS fallback scheme allows 5g terminals to reside in 5g network, but provide voice service on 4G network. When the terminal initiates a voice call, the network switches the terminal to the 4G network through the EPS fallback process and provides voice services through volte.

The successful test of China Mobile and Huawei shows that voice call, as the basic business in 5g communication, has gradually matured for business. 5g will support new service types such as Super bandwidth, ultra-low delay and super connection. Voice is still an indispensable and important service.
