E-commerce giant Amazon said its Global Selling programme has achieved a significant milestone of $1 billion in cumulative e-com exports sales from India in the last three years.The programme, launched in May 2015 with a few hundred Indian sellers on board, now has more than 50,000 exporters selling over 140 million products to Amazon's customers across the globe, the company said. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Amazon India senior VP and country head Amit Agarwal said that over the next five years, the exports initiative had the potential to fuel the growth of lakhs of Indian manufacturers, exporters and small enterprises and that Amazon was confident of clocking exports sales of $5 billion by 2023.300 million customers âSix years ago, we started operating in India with a vision to enable every motivated Indian seller to reach customers across India and every country in the world,â Mr. Agarwal said.âWe launched our Global Selling programme in India aligning with this vision. The programme has scaled up extensively since then. It is helping the governmentâs vision on exports, encouraging âMade in Indiaâ products go global and enabling Indian MSMEs to reach the doorstep of over 300 million global customers,â he added. As per the second edition of Amazon Export Digest 2019, the e-tailer witnessed growth of 56% in the number of e-commerce exporters from India in 2018. In that year, Amazonâs international marketplace saw an increase of 55% in selection of Indian products offered globally. It also reported a 71% growth in Indian exporters using the companyâs Global Fulfillment channels.Most e-commerce exporters on Amazon came from Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Amazon's major sale event, Prime Day, saw an increase of 69% in number of sellers, while Cyber Monday and Black Friday saw an increase of 30% each in seller numbers.According to the Digest, north India exported watches, cameras, pet products, outdoor and home entertainment products, while south India sold board games, shoes, home entertainment, sports gear, camera bags and the like. West India exported arts and crafts, luggage, videos and DVDs, personal care appliances while east India contributed watches, furniture, personal care appliances, tools and electronics. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston are the top American cities from where Indian exporters have been receiving maximum orders.
