The green seed pods of the plant are dried and the seeds inside the pod are used in Indian and other Asian cuisines, either whole or ground. It is the most widely cultivated species of cardamom; for other types and uses, see cardamom.

True cardamom may have been used in Ayurveda medicine as early as the 4th century BC. Ground cardamom is an ingredient in many Indian curries and is a primary contributor to the flavour of masala chai. In Iran and India, cardamom is used to flavour coffee and tea. In Turkey, it is used to flavour the black Turkish tea, kakakule.

In addition to its native range, it is grown in Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Central America. In India, the states of Sikkim and Kerala are the main producers of cardamom; they rank highest both in cultivated area and in production. It was first imported into Europe around 1300 BC.

Michael John Blyzka (December 25, 1928 October 13, 2004) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the St. Louis Browns/Baltimore Orioles (19531954). Listed at 5ft 11in (1.80m), 190lb., Blyzka batted and threw right-handed. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In a two-season-career, Blyzka posted a 311 record with 58 strikeouts and a 5.58 ERA in 70 appearances, including nine start, one save, and 180 innings of work.

Before the 1955 season, in the largest transaction in major league history, Baltimore sent Blyzka along Jim Fridley, Billy Hunter, Darrell Johnson, Dick Kryhoski, Don Larsen and Bob Turley to the Yankees, in exchange for Harry Byrd, Don Leppert, Jim McDonald, Bill Miller, Willy Miranda, Kal Segrist, Hal Smith, Gus Triandos, Gene Woodling and Ted Del Guercio. Del Guercio played 12 seasons in the minor leagues and was the only member of the group not to make the Majors.

Ole Olsen Five (21 May 1846 26 April 1930) was a Norwegian teacher and politician for the Liberal Party.

He was born in Stod as a son of teacher, sexton and farmer Ole Larsen Sunde and Olava Andersdatter Kirkol. In 1876 he married Charlotte M. Elden (18501925).

He was a school teacher and principal by profession, and founded Folkevbningen. He served as a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from Nordre Trondhjems Amt during the term 18921894, and served as a full representative during the term 19001903. In 1906 he stood for parliamentary election in the newly formed constituency Snaasen, challenged by no less than three other candidates from his own party; incumbent Hans Konrad Foosns, Ivar Aavatsmark and Lorents Mrkved. Mrkved ended fourth in the third round with only 698 votes. In the second round he was taken on board as Aavatsmark's running mate, and he was thereby elected for a new term as a deputy MP.

Torgeir Larsen (born 2 July 1967) is a Norwegian diplomat and politician of the Labour Party.

Larsen attended the Befalsskolen for marinen and holds the cand.polit. degree from the University of Oslo and an MSc in economics from the London School of Economics. He was a journalist in the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation from 1992, then consultant in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1995. From 1997 to 2000 he was an embassy secretary in Palestine, then an adviser in the secretariat for the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2001. From 2002 to 2006 he was the societal affairs and debate editor in Dagbladet. He then headed the secretariat for the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2010, served as Norway's ambassador to Spain from 2010 to 2011 and State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011. In 2013 he left Stoltenberg's Second Cabinet to work in Statoil, but in 2015 he rejoined Jens Stoltenberg as the new NATO director's chief of cabinet.

The perseverative cognition hypothesis holds that stressful events begin to affect people's health when they think about them repetitively or continuously (that is, 'perseverate cognitively').

Stressful events themselves are often too short, as are the physiological responses to them. Therefore the physiological responses during these stressors are unlikely to cause bodily harm. More importantly, many stressful events are merely worried about, or feared in the future, while they often do not happen or do not have the feared consequences. Nevertheless, the body reacts with prolonged physiological responses to continuous thoughts (perseverative cognition) about these stressors. Therefore it is the perseverative cognition, and not the stressors that can eventually lead to disease. In scientific terms, it is said that perseverative cognition is a mediator of the detrimental effects of stress on one's health. Since its publication scientific evidence for this hypothesis has been accumulating.

Matthea "Mattie" Elisabeth Larsen Daughtry is a Democratic member of the Maine House of Representatives for the 49th District. Representative Daughtry was first elected in 2012. Daughtry is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. She also serves as the House Chair of the Maine Commission on College Affordability and College Completion. On June 12, 2015 Governor Paul LePage vetoed a bill sponsored by Daughtry, LD 537 "An Act To Prohibit Standardized Testing of Children Before Third Grade", as part of his pledge to veto every bill sponsored by a Democrat until they agree to the elimination of the Maine income tax. Two days later, the Senate unanimously overruled Governor LePage's veto.

Daughtry is a lifelong resident of Brunswick, Maine. She graduated from Brunswick High School and Smith College. Daughtry owns a nonprofit consulting firm and a brewery, in addition to being a photographer and writer.

After irreconcilable differences with his previous musical project, Saturnus, Larsen began writing music of a different vein, similar in style to his neofolk influences.

In 1999, the debut :Of the Wand & the Moon: album was released, titled Nighttime Nightrhymes.

2001 saw the release of a second :Of the Wand & the Moon: release titled :Emptiness:Emptiness:Emptiness:.

After the release of a split album with Sol Invictus and a few vinyl singles, a collection of b-sides, taken from the :Emptiness:Emptiness:Emptiness: sessions, titled Lucifer, was released in 2003.

A third album, Sonnenheim, was released in 2005. Here, the music bears a strong resemblance to that of neofolk pioneers Death in June.

After a 6-year silence, a fourth album, The Lone Descent, was released in 2011. It features more contemporary influences and a richer production. The album was received with great critical acclaim and is considered a neofolk masterpiece.

A strong force of mounted tribal Arabs launches a surprise attack on a French Foreign Legion fort in the North African desert, having previously intercepted and brutally massacred a relief column en route to the fort. After an Alamo-like battle, the more numerous Arabs capture the fort. Addressing the surviving Legionnaires as captives, the Arab leader makes passing reference to Pan-Islam as a motivation for the attacks.

Various sub-plots ensue, until eventually another Legion relief column approaches the fort, unaware that it has been captured. The Arabs create the appearance that all is well and ambush the relief column as it enters the fort. Meanwhile, the captive Legionnaire survivors from the original garrison escape and join the fighting. Another all-out, Alamo-style shootout follows, but this time the reinforced Legionnaires are victorious. The French flag is raised over the fort once again as the captured Arab survivors are led away.
