Its the ram, you are extremely low on it. The video card is ok. If you turn down the games graphics settings to low and still do not see a big performance change then that tells you the ram is low. Also try going into the task manager and turning off all programs under your computers name except explorer and taskmgr. Also disable your anti-virus program and any other stuff like spy-sweeper that monitors your computer constantly.

Nvidia does not guarantee SLI will work with different cores. Proceed with caution and make sure you are able to return the card. A single 8600GT for $120 is too much for a standalone card. Try the 8800GT for $200 as it is unrivaled in the performance/price. The 8600GT and 8500GT SLI combo will be worse than a single 8800GT. It needs a 12V rail at 26 amp or a recommended 450W PSU though.

Not by a huge amount but not by a small amount. Well I could not find the 8400 on the charts that I use, but its better brother the 8500 is JUST BARELY better than the 1300.. For the record, I prefer nVidia, but people need to be more objective about two (or more) specific cards being compared.
