how often do you find yourself paying to use a website? I guess the question is what is more important... high traffic or getting a couple of subscribers.. Even if you charged something really small like 25 cents people would not use it because the trouble of getting them to pay 25 cents is as difficult as getting them to pay 5 dollars. (having to fill out CC information or whatnot) I would stick with free and see how it turns out. You can always generate revenue by ads or having premium space on your page for paying coupon advertisers

Macy's will be your best bet for makeup samples, and Elder Beerman, for fragrance. You can not get samples of cosmetic brushes.
