How should one drive a car to get the caru2019s best millage in a city?
Keep these simple points in mind for better fuel efficiency:It's not always wise to turn off the engine as the engine needs more fuel to start than keeping it idling for around a min. So if any stop is for more than 1 min, kill the engine.Never accelerate too much or speed up because you will have to brake soon enough, so keep the car at low RPMs and shift to upper gear as soon as possible without having to put load on the engine. This also comes down to what car you choose, its always wise to have high torque cars in traffic with gears tuned for longer range. When you know your way like when a bumper will come or where the pothole is, slow your car down already instead of having to brake suddenly.Do not carry unnecessary stuff in your car, that you are not going to need. This one is quite common, keep your tire pressure appropriate. A little more can give you better efficiency but can even cause bursts.Always refuel when the tank is half or little less than half. And refuel early in the morning or late in the evening.Go for wheel alignment and balancing every 5000 kms.Keep your car maintained with regular service, oiling etc. Put the car to neutral when stopped and release the clutch completely, in fact use clutch as less as possible. Also, do not shift gears frequently, driving on second gear for a minute consumes lesser fuel than shifting to third and coming back to second in 30 seconds.A lot of people have old scooter habits and they press clutch as soon as they press brakes. In cars or bikes, even in 5th gear you don't need to do so till the car becomes quite slow like less than 30 kmph or unless you want to shift to lower gear. So, you don't need to press clutch for slight brakes that you apply just to slow down.Avoid any unnecessary modifications to your car like wider tires, bumper beam etc. When the climate is good and you will not be driving above 60, turn off the AC and open your windows. If you are driving above 60, roll up the windows and turn on the AC. Wind resistance at higher speeds may lower your cars efficiency, so instead of saving you will spend more if you keep your AC off. Drive as straight as possible instead of using your steering too much. It's really difficult to keep all this in mind, but eventually this becomes your habit if you keep practicing. If you follow all this together, perhaps you can increase your cars fuel economy by 1-2 kmpl if not more. Hope you find this useful. Does using the cigarette lighter socket in your car to charge ipods or phones etc use fuel? Is more fuel used?
not really, all that is doing is putting a tiny strain on the battery, its nothing to worry about, the only thing to worry about is if you have a massive audio unit, that might :p

Have a Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 5.7 L Hemi. Mpg is 11.4. How can I make it more fuel efficient?
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 MDS Hemi (factory stock). Ive tried the "easy" things like quality air filters, driving easy, synthetic oil, 89 octane gas, etc. NO major alterations.I get an average of 15 MPG combined highway and city. Thats all this ol gal will give me on mileage with what I've done. Its been paid off for years and still in good shape (with lifetime Dodge warranty) so Ill be keeping it for a few more years. If i wanted 20 MPG, Id get a new one (and so should you).Ski in TX
