Colin Kaepernick putting his San Jose home on the market was big news last week amid the uncertainty surrounding his future with the 49ers. Kaepernick through a team spokesman said he was selling the home as "an investment decision."A report from NFL Media surfaced Sunday morning indicating Kaepernick was likely to test the free agent market after the season, meaning this could be the end of Kaepernick's tenure with the team that drafted him in 2011.A related nugget in the saga: Kaepernick purchased a $3.21-million condo in New York City over the summer, according to the Los Angeles Times. It could be that Kaepernick, who's banked some $43 million from the 49ers over his six-year career, just wanted a place to call home in one of the world's most desirable cities. It sounds like a nice place, per the Times:The 1,733-square-foot unit has vaulted ceilings, solid wood doors and wide-plank wood flooring. Oversized windows take in views from three exposures.A contemporary kitchen, a living room, an office, two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms are among the living areas. The master bathroom sports custom teak vanities and a whirlpool tub.Kaepernick played like he was getting more and more comfortable in Chip Kelly's offense before Sunday's game. But he was benched for Blaine Gabbert early in the fourth quarter after completing just one pass against the lowly Chicago Bears in the driving snow at Soldier Field. The 49ers had their worst passing performance in 53 years in the embarrassing 26-6 defeat.Kelly after the game wouldn't commit to a starting quarterback for the next game against the New York Jets, who, coincidentally, should be in the quarterback market next spring.Kaepernick has thrown for 1,444 yards in seven starts since taking over for Gabbert in Week 6. Kaepernick completed 54.5 percent of his passes with 10 touchdown passes and three interceptions for a passer rating of 85.5, which ranks 24th among 32 qualified quarterbacks.Sign up for the Niners Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning Please re-enter your email address.
