Lexprience au temple de Guinsa a t plutt intense, bien quelle ait dure trs peu de temps. Elle a t intense en terme dmotions, de rencontres, de spiritualit, de beaut tout simplement. Le lieu, les personnes qui taient avec nous ont rendu cette exprience marquante. Les aurevoirs sont difficiles. Cest un peu comme si depuis Danyang, nous avions vcu une parenthse enchante dans notre voyage. Entre la rencontre de Jang Hi, notre hte, qui nous a partag une partie de sa vie quelle passe avec sa famille en voyage et tenir une petite auberge, la rencontre de Yoon, la dcouverte de la librairie perdue au milieu de la fort, le mont Birobong, le temple, la rencontre de Shreen, Bianca, Patrick, Claudine, Laure-Anne, Allan et Blanca, nous avons vraiment t gts.Depuis Danyang, nous prenons un bus en direction de la ville de Andong. Il sagit de la ville la plus proche du village hanok dHahoe. Sur notre guide la ville dAndong est recommande pour son march, sa proximit avec Hahoe et la culture des masques un peu la Comedia dellarte dans la rgion.Fait intressant : Le village dHahoe figure au patrimoine mondial de lUNESCO. Cest lun des villages composs danciennes maisons typiques corennes qui est le mieux conserv.Le long de la route menant Andong, nous observons principalement des champs et plusieurs panneaux solaires. Nous observons galement des hrons qui prennent leur envol lourdement depuis les champs de riz. Ils sont assez rigolos. De loin, ce sont des oiseaux trs fins et nous pourrions penser quils senvolent facilement. Et bien non. Ils avancent leur buste et leur long bec, commencent battre des ailes plus ou moins rapidement et finissent par senvoler. En revanche, une fois quils ont dcoll, ils rasent un peu les champs de riz et prennent de laltitude assez rapidement. A la gare dAndong, nous rencontrons quelques difficults pour trouver le bus que nous devons prendre pour nous rendre au motel que nous avons rserv. Notre chauffeur nous indique rapidement o il faut que lon aille, mais nous ne connaissons pas notre numro de bus. Il y a beaucoup de jeunes. Il semble que nous sommes en plein dans les heures de sortie des collges et lyces. Nous demandons en anglais des tudiantes de nous aider, mais ils se mettent rire sans nous rpondre. Une adolescente, moins timide que les autres, nous indique le numro du bus que nous devons prendre. Pendant que nous attendons, un groupe de jeunes garons en pleine crise dhormones se met chahuter. En un coup doeil, il est facile didentifier un gros dur, un plus fin avec des lunettes lair plus intello et trois autres. Le gros dur narrte pas de mettre la tte de celui lunette sous son bras, de le chatouiller, de le bloquer pendant que les autres rigolent. La scne est trs nervante. On a envie daller voir ce gros dur et de le remettre sa place avec ses amis. Cependant, le souffre douleur rigole aussi et ne sloigne pas Ils finissent par monter dans le bus avec nous. Le gros dur sen prend dsormais un autre membre de son groupe qui semble tre hypnotis par lui. Bref, 40 minutes de trajet avec des adolescents qui chahutent bizarrement dans le fond du busNous finissons par arriver notre motel. Nous dcouvrons les chambres de ces fameux motels qui parfois sont simplement destins aux couples pour quelques heures. Notre chambre est plutt grande et dcore avec un papier peint remplit de bouches de diffrentes couleurs. Une notice dinformation est pose sur le bureau prcisant quil est interdit de venir dans le motel avec des jeunes filles mineures maries Le matelas est dur comme du bton, ce qui nous surprend, si les personnes viennent passer du bon temps dans cet htel. Nous trouvons aussi diffrents accessoires comme des prservatifs ou un kit pour se ligoter. Bref, nous sommes un peu fatigus et cela nous fait plus ou moins rire.La ville de Andong me fait un peu penser Vierzon, ville situe dans le dpartement du Cher en France. Cest une ville tendue, mais avec une ou deux rues commerantes un peu touristiques et un march o lon trouve la fois des vendeurs de vtements, de casseroles, des restaurants de rue, des vendeurs de poissons, de viande, de lgumes, etc. Il y a tout au march. Mise part cela, la ville a un vieux quartier dhanok bien cconserv, mais que nous navons pas vu et elle est trs proche du village dHahoe.Nous nous rendons donc dans ce fameux village, le lendemain de notre arrive Andong. Nous prenons un bus pour nous rendre Hahoe. Nous tombons sur un chauffeur qui se croit sur un cricuit de course (pour changer), il se met doubler les voitures en pleine ville, acclre sur les dos dnes et les virages. A quelques reprises, on sest dit que lon allait finir dans le foss. Le village dHahoe est plutt mignon. Il y a plein dhanok trs bien conserves, mais nous ne pouvons pas rentrer les visiter, car des personnes vivent encore dedans. Cest plutt drle de voir des mercedes gares devant des maisons en terre et en bois. De lextrieur, les maisons semblent plutt rudimentaires. Nous sommes seuls dans le village, nous ne voyons presque personne et il y a peu dindications. Nous suivons le parcours recommand, mais mis part les noms des illustres personnes qui ont habit dans les maisons, nous nen apprenons malheureusement pas beaucoup.Fait intressant : Le village dHahoe reflte la culture aristocratique confucenne sous lpoque Joseon. Il comprenait des maisons des familles dirigeantes ou des hauts fonctionnaires. Il sagissait aussi dun village clanique, cest--dire que les familles qui vivaient dans le village se rclamaient dun anctre commun.Le village est entoure dune rivire, ce qui donne un ct trs charmant avec les arbres qui sparent la rivire de la route et du village. Nous nous arrtons dans une des hanok pour une dgustation de th. Dlicieux. Le cadre est magnifique.Aprs cette petite pause, nous avons un petit creux, mais malheureusement il ny a quune dame dans tout le village qui vend quelque chose manger : des brins de mas bouillis. Heureusement, car avec la chaleur nous commenons faiblir. En nous dirigeant vers le spectacle de masques, nous faisons une rencontre surprenante. Laurent et Evelyne, le couple denseignants franais que nous avons rencontr Danyang est aussi dans le village. La coincidence est plutt drle. Nous commenons discuter et ils nous racontent leur mode de voyage. Depuis plusieurs annes, ils voyagent en Asie, car ils apprcient les diffrents types de cuisine et surtout ils peuvent passer plus de temps en vacances plutt que de rester en Europe. Ainsi, ils ont fait plusieurs reprises la Chine, la Thalande, le Vietnam, le Laos, et bien dautres pays encore. Leurs meilleurs souvenirs de voyage sont au Laos et en Birmanie, quils nous conseillent de visiter. Nous assistons tous les quatre au spectacle typique des masques. Il sagit dun spectacle avec un groupe de musique et des petites scnettes qui sont joues par des comdiens qui portent des masques. En fonction des masques, les comdiens jouent toujours le mme personnage. Il sagit dhistoires populaires connues qui moquent les bourgeois, les moines bouddhistes ou qui dnoncent des situations injustes. Ces histoires courtes sont plutt drles et plus ou moins faciles comprendre avec les mimes des comdiens, mme si lon ne comprend pas le coren.Evelyne et Laurent partent direction Andong aprs le spectacle, tandis que nous dcidons daller visiter le muse des masques. Cest un petit muse intressant qui permet de prendre conscience que depuis des milliers dannes les socits humaines, sur tous les continents, se sont dotes trs rapidement de masques pour moquer des faits de socits ou pour orchestrer diffrents types de rituels spirituels. Cela me rappelle des cours danthropologie que javais suivi pendant ma licence et dont javais oubli quelques parties avec le temps.Fait intressant : Le plus vieux masque trouv en Core date de 5000 an avant J-C. Il a t ralis dans un coquillage. Le soir avant de rentrer lhtel, nous allons la dcouverte dun barbecue coren. Comme notre habitude, nous rentrons dans le restaurant en faisant confiance au nombre de personnes lintrieur. Le patron du restaurant a une aura qui rayonne travers son sourire. Cest un vrai plaisir de discuter avec lui et son barbecue est dlicieux. Il y a bien videmment de la viande, mais sur le ct du barbecue, il fait fondre du fromage avec du mas. Nous faisons fondre des oignons et nous mangeons le tout enroul dune feuille de salade. Nous passons un agrable moment dans ce petit restaurant.Le passage Andong est plutt mitig. Nous y avons pass quun seul jour complet et nous connaissant, je pense que ctait suffisant. Nous avons apprci le sjour, mais nous avons t un peu dus par le village dHahoe. Nous nous attendions ce quil y ait peut-tre des visites guides dans le village, plus de panneaux explicatifs en anglais, etc. Quant la ville dAndong, cest une ville qui se dveloppe avec les touristes qui viennent visiter Hahoe village. Dans les rues pitonnes vides de monde, nous trouvons des magasins de marques trangres comme le Coq sportif, Vans et dautres dont je nai pas retenu le nom. Cela nous donne une impression un peu superficielle de la ville.Ce premier coup de mou dans le voyage, nous amne parler beaucoup de lavenir. Nous avons du mal rester dans le prsent comme les moines du temple de Guinsa nous recommandaient. Cest fascinant quel point en quelques heures, notre bulle de voyage sest envole. Une seule image me vient en tte pour dcrire notre impression dAndong est il sagit des montagnes russes. Nous sommes monts haut avec beaucoup de plaisir et la cadence ralentie pour nous ramener plus vers les choses de la vie. Si nous parlons du futur, cest pour nous consoler de notre bulle envole et de notre mal du pays. Cela nous rassure et nous motive, mais il ne faut pas oublier ce que nous sommes en train de vivre pour ne pas se blaser des choses auxquelles nous commenons nous habituer

List of manuscripts in the Cotton libraryThis is an incomplete list of some of the manuscripts from the Cotton library that today form the Cotton collection of the British Library. Some manuscripts were destroyed or damaged in a fire at Ashburnham House in 1731, and a few are kept in other libraries and collections. Robert Bruce Cotton organized his library in a room 26 feet (7.9 m) long by six feet wide filled with bookpresses, each with the bust of a figure from classical antiquity on top. Counterclockwise, these were Julius Caesar, Augustus, Cleopatra, Faustina, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian. (Domitian had only one shelf, perhaps because it was over the door). In each press, each shelf was assigned a letter; manuscripts were identified by the bust over the press, the shelf letter, and the position of the manuscript (in Roman numerals) counting from the left side of the shelf. Thus, the Lindisfarne Gospels, Nero B.iv, was the fourth manuscript from the left on the second shelf (shelf B) of the press under the bust of Nero. For Domitian and Augustus, which had only one shelf each, the shelf letter was left out of the press-mark. The British Museum retained Cotton's press-marks when the Cotton collection became one of the foundational collections of its library, so manuscripts are still designated by library, bookpress, shelf, and number (even though they are no longer stored in that fashion). For example, the manuscript of Beowulf is designated Cotton MS Vitellius A.xv, and the manuscript of Pearl is Cotton MS Nero A.x.— — — — — —Significant manuscripts (with articles)Cotton Genesis, 4th or 5th century, heavily illustrated. While attempting to get a translation of the Sanskrit kama-sastra text Anangaranga that had already been widely translated by the Hindus in regional languages such as Marathi, associates of the British Orientalist Richard Burton stumbled into portions of the Kamasutra manuscript. They commissioned the Sanskrit scholar Bhagvanlal Indraji to locate a complete Kamasutra manuscript and translate it. Indraji collected variant manuscripts in libraries and temples of Varanasi, Kolkata and Jaipur. Burton published an edited English translation of these manuscripts, but not a critical edition of the Kamasutra in Sanskrit. According to S.C. Upadhyaya, known for his 1961 scholarly study and a more accurate translation of the Kamasutra, there are issues with the manuscripts that have survived and the text likely underwent revisions over time. This is confirmed by other 1st-millennium CE Hindu texts on kama that mention and cite the Kamasutra, but some of these quotations credited to the Kamasutra by these historic authors "are not to be found in the text of the Kamasutra" that have survived.— — — — — —Extant manuscripts with philosophical interestAll of Demarco's manuscripts are held at the National Library of Malta in Valletta, and still in their manuscript form. Though some interest in the man's activities and intellectual endeavours had always been kept alive amongst academics, little serious effort had ever been made to bring his scientific and philosophical accomplishments fully out in the open. The ones commented upon here are solely those which retain some philosophical interest. Of course, from a medical point of view all of his works would be relevant and worthy of thorough comprehension. All manuscripts are written in Demarco's typical minuscule, crammed and barely legible handwriting, which of course makes reading, transliteration, translation and study immensely difficult. This is one of the most pertinent reasons, amongst others, for which Demarco's intellectual enterprise remains unexplored completely unto this day. PhilosophyDe Logica (Concerning Logic; c. 1760) - A work in Latin (with unnumbered pages) which bears the subtitle Prlectiones Nonnull (A Few Instructions). It seems to have been intended as an introduction to logic for beginners. Atrium in Universam Physicam Experimentalem (An Introduction to Universal Experimental Physics; 1760) - This extant manuscript in Latin is incomplete and was left in draft form by Demarco himself. It is a commentary on the first book of Aristotle's De Naturalibus (On Natural Things) or, in other words, on his De Sensu et Sensato (On Sense and Sensibility) of his Parva Naturalia (Brief Comments on Natural Things). What brought Demarco to commence this commentary was a new publication issued at Avignon, France, of Aristotle's work. Varia (Miscellaneous; c. 1760) - Two Latin manuscripts which are together composed of 550 folios. They contain a colossal number of reflections in no order whatsoever. Herein Demarco simply jotted down any thought and musing as they came to mind. Very often is quite difficult to distinguish one from the other. At the end of the work, Demarco was considerate enough to include an index of contents. Obviously this was for his own use, as it is absolutely impossible to follow. Generalis Philosophi Atrium (A General Introduction to Philosophy; 1763) - The main idea of this manuscript in Latin is to provide a general introduction to what Demarco calls philosophi experimentalis (experimental philosophy) and all its divisions. The work has 43 chapters organised under 13 titles. The extant manuscript also includes marginal notes added by Demarco himself. The content deals with philosophy by respectively focusing on its qualifications; its structure; its objectives; its initial history; its history after classical times; its development; its academic divisions; the growth of its schools of thought; its main themes; its results; important Presocratic themes, and their meaning. The last title is reserved for some general comments concerning philosophy.Social philosophyEpistola Dedicatoria (A Memorial Missive; 1754) - Text of an open letter in Latin supposedly sent from Senglea, Malta, on January 12, 1754, to Don Josepho de Dueas, one of the Knights Hospitallers in Malta. The 15-folio long letter is certainly of a historical and literary value. However, also is interesting for the fact that it reveals some of Demarco's philosophical aptitudes. Delle Torture (Concerning Torture; c. 1750) - This manuscript in Italian had been left unfinished by Demarco himself. It is a very interesting study on the use of torture (common still in Demarco's day) from different angles. Nonetheless, Demarco stops short of expressing any moral pronouncement on the subject. Mannarino (Mannarino; 1773) - This is another open letter dedicated to a personality in Maltese history, Don Gaetano Mannarino. This priest was actually a contemporary of Demarco. From February 1773, he organised a group of fellow priests who, eventually, took up arms against Francisco Ximenes de Texada, the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitallers, in protest for retracting some of their rights and privileges. The actual revolt of the priests took place on September 9, 1775. Nonetheless, Demarco's letter was written on October 22, of two years earlier. It still addresses some of the presumed issued which were being brought forward by the priests. Typically (and revealingly), in his missive Demarco sides with the Grand Master's point of view, and admonishes Mannarino and his collaborators for being so unreasonable and unruly.PathologyFasti: Morborum Melitensis (A Record: Maltese Infirmities; 1763-87) - An interesting document in which Demarco progressively recorded his thoughts and reflections. The manuscript, which is composed of 296 folios, is reserved for observations concerning infirmities of the body and also of the soul. Some entries are of philosophical interest. The document opens with a Latin preface, and closes with a Latin epilogue and, finally, 50 aphorisms. Physiologie Cursus: Anatomico - meccanico - experimentalis (A Course in Physiology: Anatomical - mechanical - experimental; 1765) - A study in Latin which deals with various aspects of physiology. Though the mechanistic concept of the body and of creation is accepted as basic, Demarco produces some objections and discussions for the acknowledgement of its absolute validity. Patologicus Brevis Cursus (A Short Course in Pathology; 1774) - A work in Latin which goes into the nature of mental illnesses. Tractatus de Affectione (A Treatise on the Passions; 1764) - The main theme of this manuscript in Latin is the passions which overcome humans when their freedom of will becomes wanting. The work, which is made up of 76 folios, is divided in subtitles. At the end it includes an index of contents.ScienceTrattato della Trigonometria Piana (A Treatise concerning Standard Trigonometry; 1742) - The work bears the subtitle: Con un breve saggio della Geometria Practica (With a brief study concerning Practical Geometry). The manuscript is made up of 212 folios, and written in Italian. The content is divided in Explications, Definitions (meaning concepts), and Propositions (including examples). The work is basically about flat triangles as distinguishable from spherical triangles. Vulgaris Arithmetic Elementaris Theoria (A Common Theory of Elementary Arithmetic; c. 1742) - This manuscript in Latin is made up of 58 folios, and divided into subtitles. Demarco focuses respectively on algebra, numerics, addition, and other arithmetic functions. An effort seems to have been made to make such an abstract subject understandable by non-professionals. Trait de Physique (A Treatise concerning the Human Body; 1745) - Notes in French of a course given by Demarco at the University of Montpellier while terminating his studies there. The content is divided in Subtitles and Sections. Of course, it deals with various aspects of the physical constitution of human beings.
