I recommend buying some Wonder Hangers (look online if they are not really a thing where you are). They let you hang up five things in the horizontal space occupied by one, maybe two things--great way to fit more clothes in a tiny closet. If you wear nail varnish and jewelry regularly, bring them. You will probably not have a lot of time to read for pleasure, because most college assignments are basically "read this and (write something/be prepared to discuss it next class/both)," but if you want to bring a few books just in case you find yourself with downtime or you need a mental break, you will probably have a place for them. You might want to bring photos of family or pets, if you think you will miss them. Photos can be comforting. Get a laptop computer if you do not have one; bring your laptop if you do. You will likely want a desk or floor lamp. You should also have a small supply of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs--ibuprofen, acetaminophen, cough medicine, allergy medicine, antihistamine.
